Getting Started
Start off with the name of your city and add the phrase real estate use as your base. Another baseline keyword phrase might be your city + homes or homes for sale. Then pull up the Google tool. You can get to this tool from Google’s home page by clicking on Advertising Programs and then click on AdWords in the list of Products. Then choose Get Keyword Ideas. Once you are there, there are a couple ways to use your baseline keyword phrases. Let’s start with the Keyword Tool.
How to Use The Keyword Tool
In the Find Keywords box type in your baseline phrase. For example, if you are a Realtor in Atlanta you would type in Atlanta real estate and click Search. What appears is 4 columns of information. By analyzing the data in these columns you should be able to determine the best or most appropriate keyword phrases for your Website.
• Column One – The first column lists all the possible variations on the phrase such as: Atlanta real estate market, Atlanta real estate listings. Atlanta real estate sales and there are dozens more. At this point, you need to identify those keyword phrases that reflect your real estate business. For example, downtown Atlanta real estate is one of the suggested options and if that is an area or one of the areas of interest for you fine, if it is not an area of interest you will simply ignore this suggestion.
• Column Two – The second column displays boxes that indicate the level of competition for each keyword phrase. Keyword phrases that are highly competitive are going to cost more if you plan to do pay-per-click and are going to require a higher level of SEO if you plan to target the free or organic section of the search engines.
• Column Three and Four – The Global and Monthly search stats tell you how many searches there are per month for each keyword phrase. You will probably notice that the more competitive keyword phrases also have the highest number of monthly searches.
How to Use The Traffic Estimator
This is another aspect of the Google Tool that can further enhance your keyword research. Here you can determine what daily and monthly costs might be involved should you decide to do the Google AdWords option and you can also see what kinds of results you might expect. For example, if you want to use the phrase, Atlanta real estate, expect to pay $3.00 per click. You should receive about 45 clicks a day and that will put your daily budget at $140.44. Now do not panic. There are ways to limit your costs for pay-per-click but that is not what this newsletter is all about. You can also use this information to determine the value of organic placement. In other words, if you set up your Website to get top placement in the free section, that placement is worth about $4,000 a month, but in the free section your monthly costs are zero.
